ABOUT UNCOMMON BADASS
Hi, I’m Christy Rager and I am an Uncommon Badass.
I love teaching and empowering others to do their own home repairs, projects, and life hacks. I despise stereotypes and I have spent my life breaking them. Women, in particular, have been subconsciously taught and often outright told that we cannot take care of a home’s repairs, build things, and take on projects.
My goal is to empower, teach, and make you confident to maintain and repair your own homes, to take on projects, and show you life hacks for self-care.
I want you to become the Uncommon Badass that you are!
I have always been a tomboy and loved being hands-on. As long as I can remember I have been my dad’s tomboy and was fixing, building, and fishing with him.
I married young and he was a plumber with a strong electrical background, with a family tree of mechanical trade workers. We learned from family and took on any project and completed all of our home maintenance, repairs, and moved to renovations and big projects.
In the 1990s I had the opportunity to take a job as a trade apprentice working in commercial maintenance, turning what I enjoyed doing into a career. I earned a 4.0 GPA in the 4 year classroom portion of the program and I learned quickly and enjoyed the on-the-job training portion in the trades and maintenance in the commercial field.
A few of my favorite projects include:
- Building and finishing a 31’ x 24’ addition to our home with my Ex. We completed every facet of the work with the exception of the foundation and block work and the mudding and finishing of the drywall (due to time), most alone and some with friends and family.
- Installing hardwood flooring in a family room that previously had carpet.
- As part of a bathroom full renovation, I installed the shower walls and tile, ceramic tile around the soaking tub, the tile flooring, drywall repairs, light fixture replacement, and the base and window trim.
- Adding a 2nd floor loft in my old tobacco barn.
A few fun Facts About Me…
